The Iona College men's basketball team completed its four-game home stand with a 91-64 victory over Rider on Sunday afternoon.

What seemed to be a slow start for the Gaels ended up the opposite. Iona found themselves down 10 points with less than eight minutes to go in the first half, but turned things around after a second half surge.

The Gaels were impressive from behind the arc, going 16 of 28 (57.1 percent) from the three-point line. Iona also shot an astonishing 58.2 percent from the field.

Junior guard Rickey McGill flirted with a double-double as he recorded 13 points and nine assists. Junior guard Schadrac Casimir led the Maroon and Gold in scoring with 15 points. Sophomore E.J. Crawford and senior Jan Svandrlik combined for 22 points off the bench.

Late in the first half, Rider lost their star sophomore guard, Stevie Jordan, due to an ankle injury. Jordan scored a team-high 14 points in 17 minutes of play. Freshman Dimencio Vaughn tallied 11 points and five rebounds.

The Broncs were only able to shoot 4 of 15 from beyond the arc and failed to hit free throws, going 4 of 17 from the line.

The victory marked Iona’s fourth straight win. The Gaels were able to retain a share of first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with Canisius.

Iona will take on Monmouth University in Long Branch, NJ this Friday at 7 pm.
